LOAEF/Betheyla Scholarship Fund

The Light on Ayurveda Educational Foundation (LOAEF) is accepting applications through July 31, 2009 for the First Annual Betheyla Scholarship for advanced studies in Ayurveda, Jyotisha and Yoga. A $3000.00 scholarship for advanced studies in Ayurveda, Yoga and Jyotisha will be awarded October 7, 2009.

Fundraising for the annual award is underway in earnest, with a goal of raising $60,000 in capital funds to provide for the on-going scholarship.  A meritorious aspirant will be selected each year by a committee of volunteers dedicated to serving Betheyla’s cherished memory as an educator and sevadar. Click here for a list of our donors to whom we are indebted to make this award possible. We would be most grateful for your donation. (Note: Paypal will handle your credit card without requiring you to open a Paypal account.)

About Betheyla:

Betheyla Anuradha (1948 – 2007) selflessly offered her services to Light on Ayurveda Journal and to Light on Ayurveda Educational Foundation, giving us the necessary guidance and encouragement to continue our services to the Ayurvedic community. She graduated from the Ayurvedic Institute where she worked tirelessly to combine the knowledge of Ayurveda with Yoga, co-creating with Dr. Vasant Lad, a course in Ayurvedic Yoga for The Ayurvedic Institute. Betheyla held a Bachelor’s Degree in Vedic Astrology through the American Council of Vedic Astrology, where she studied under the tutelage of Vamadeva Shastri (Dr. David Frawley). She taught Jyotish at the Ayurvedic Institute; was the first Vedic Astrology columnist for LA Yoga Ayurveda and Health magazine (2002 – 2007), and maintained a successful Vedic Astrology consulting practice. In 2002, as one of her many seva projects, she organized the first silent auction for the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, raising over $10,000.00 in non-committed funds that year. No matter what discipline she was studying or practicing, she did so with singular intensity.

About the Scholarship:

Applications for this first award are due July 31, 2009. We have already begun receiving donations from contributors such as you. Our fund raising goal is $60,000 per year for two years to provide sufficient capital for sustainability of this important annual $3,000.00 award. We welcome your donation to this unique scholarship fund.
