Update on Ayurvedic Education and Practice in the U.S.

The National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) has been working with the Ayurvedic educational community since as early as 2004 when the first standard for Practitioner educational programs was set. It was understood that a base line for education was necessary for the programs that had already been functioning, building curriculum and a student base. Because of these pioneers in Ayurvedic education in the United States, we have seen a growth from the first school (the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico) back in 1984 to over 30 programs across the United States in 2012. The programs range from offering weekend courses for individual health to full degrees in Ayurvedic practice.
